About Junko
Junko Ichikawa was born in Obihiro, Hokkaido, and began playing and studying piano at the age of four. At age fifteen, Junko made her U.S. concert debut, playing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the Obihiro Reed Orchestra in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has performed as a soloist with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra (Tokyou), as well as with the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra, the Wiener Residenz Orchester and many others.
Recognitions
Junko is also one of the best-known students of Seymour Bernstein, the legendary piano teacher who was the subject of the 2015 award-winning documentary, “Seymour: An Introduction”, directed by Ethan Hawke. The film is currently available on DVD and most streaming services. Junko is featured in several scenes.
Accomplishments
Junko is a graduate of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (Geidai), New York University, Mannes College of Music, and has earned her DMA at Rutgers University.
